The Governing Body

The governing team is the apex body of NIST Foundation, and responsible for formulating short–term and long–term academic and operational plans, policies and strategies across the schools and colleges under the banner of NIST. The team is comprised of the following members:

Dr. Madhav Prasad Baral


As a renowned academician, Dr. Madhav Prasad Baral has a long–standing experience and established credentials as a forerunner in the area of providing both high school and higher education in the country. Having established National School of Science (NSS) as the Founder Principal back in 1993 AD, the journey of more than twenty-six years has seen the NSS firmly established in the academic firmament as an educational institute of repute. Dr. Baral completed his MS in Biochemistry and Ph.D. in Food Chemistry from the University of the Philippines, one of the most popular universities in the world. Upon his return, he served as a Senior Scientific Officer for 18 years at NAST, Kathmandu, previously known as RONAST.

He was also associated with the Central Department of Microbiology, Tribhuvan University and more than 50 students pursuing Microbiology in the Master’s degree completed their dissertation under his supervision. He has published several scientific articles in the national and the international journals. Currently, he is the Founder Chairman of the NIST Foundation, and under its umbrella, there are nine academic institutions viz. (a) National College, National College of Food Technology and National Model College of Advanced Learning affiliated to Tribhuvan University, (b) National College for Advanced Learning affiliated to Pokhara University, (c) School of Medical Sciences affiliated to CTEVT and (d) Millennium International High School now Bhaktapur NIST School and National Model Science School.

Under the leadership of Dr. Baral as Chairperson, all these academic institutions are providing academic courses from high school to higher education i.e. Diploma, Bachelors and Masters programmes in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Business, Pharmacy and Lab Technician among others. Dr. Baral is dedicated, and has remarkably contributed to the development of quality education in the country. He has a strong passion in science and technology, and agriculture. He is focused, and highly values his profession.

Mrs. Pranita Sharma Baral

Founder Principal

Mrs. Pranita S. Baral is a dedicated, resourceful and goal-driven professional educator with a strong commitment to the social and academic development of every student. With over twenty-eight years of experience as an educator in addition to her academic prowess, she is recognized for her superior interpersonal and communication skills to foster meaningful relationships with students, staff and parents.

Mrs. Baral earned a Master’s Degree in Botany from Tribhuvan University, and worked for a brief period as Junior Scientific Officer at RONAST (now NAST) before joining St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar as a full-time faculty in 1992. She joined National School of Sciences (NSS) in 2000 as a teacher, and assumed the role of Vice-Principal in 2007. Apart from the responsibilities at the workplace, Mrs. Baral dons different hats – she has been a member of the Lions Clubs International Multiple 325 A2 since 2009, and holds the distinction of serving as the District Chairperson – Youth Camp during which she was awarded the prestigious Region Chairperson Leadership award by the International President, Berry Palmer Ly. She is also a life Member of the Amnesty International, Nepal Chapter.

Currently, she holds the post of the Executive Director at NSS and Founder Principal of Bhaktapur NIST School. She is also a Founder Member of the NIST Foundation, the umbrella organization of other academic institutions, of which the NSS is one constituent member.

Rajendra K Ghising, Ph. D.

Executive Director – NIST Foundation

Dr. Rajendra K. Ghising has more than two decades of experience in the management and administration of education institutions particularly private high schools. Prior to joining the NIST Foundation, Dr. Ghising served as the Chief Executive of GEMS School and Kathmandu World School, and during his association with these two top–notch institutions, he played an instrumental role in developing vision, mission, strategies and policies to provide students with high quality education as well as positioning the schools in the industry.

He earned an MBA from Ace Institute of Management, Pokhara University, Nepal and Ph. D. in Management from Angeles University, Philippines. He has attended several executive educations abroad that include Advanced Strategic Management, IMD Business School, Switzerland, one of the leading business schools in the world, Strategy Development for Successful Execution, Kaplan–Norton Master Class and How to Develop Strategy Maps among others. He has also participated in several international conferences organized by Cambridge and IB World. Recently, he completed courses on Leading Schools and Leading Change offered by Harvard University, USA.

Dr. Ghising has considerable expertise in creating vision, mission and goals for academic and non–academic institutions, and formulating strategies to achieve the vision and goals with primary focus on empowering teachers / staff and leaders thereby improve the learning outcomes for students of any academic institutions or achieve sustainable growth of corporations. He has a wealth of experience in operation and financial management of academic institutions and corporations. In addition, Dr. Ghising served on the board of a bank for more than eight years, and worked as the Coordinator in the Audit Committee, Risk Committee and Credit Committee of the bank, and the Merger Committee. He strongly believes in lifelong learning and innovation, and stick to the core values of honesty, respect, integrity and professionalism.

Dr. Rajeev Chhetri

Principal / Director of Academics

Dr. Rajeev Chhetri rekindles his association with National School of Sciences (NSS) for a second stint, bringing along a long–standing experience of over two decades as an academician and academic administrator in reputed educational institutions of the Kathmandu Valley.

Dr. Chhetri started his career from NSS as a young faculty in 1998, and was associated with NSS till 2007 as the Programme Coordinator of the Science Stream. In 2008, he joined GEMS Institute of Higher Education, the higher education wing of GEMS School, as the Academic Head, responsible for leading the academic programmes of the Higher Secondary (Plus 2), A – Level and BS–MD (Bachelor of Science leading to a degree in Doctor of Medicine), a binary programme with Angeles University Foundation, the Philippines. Thereafter, he was associated as the Academic Director of Golden Gate International College, Liverpool International College and Patan College for Professional Studies (the academic partner of the University of Bedfordshire, U.K. in Nepal). More recently, he has completed his tenure as the Principal at Kathmandu World School, Gundu, Bhaktapur.

As the head of academic programmes in the different institutions he worked with, Dr. Chhetri has functioned effectively as the principal architect in planning, executing and monitoring day-to-day operations, in addition to formulating, recommending and implementing new policies to promote progressive education in line with the needs of today’s students. Dr. Chhetri has joined as the Principal of NSS. In addition, he also serves as the Director of Academics for the academic programmes under the NIST Foundation. He earned his Doctorate Degree in Environmental Sciences from Kathmandu University, Nepal in 2010, and his Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree in Biological Sciences from Sri Sathya Sai University, India. He has published several scientific articles in the national and the international journals related to the core area of his research – Ethnobotany.

Mr. Chandra Adhikari

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Chandra Adhikari has more than twenty years of working experience in the areas of education and human rights. He holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology, and is one of the founder members of Bhaktapur NIST, a high school that offers academic programmes from the Pre-school to Elementary and High school. Bhaktapur NIST is one of the constituent institutions under the NIST Foundation, and Mr. Adhikari leads the overall management and administration of all academic and non–academic activities of the school as the CEO.

In addition, Mr. Adhikari is currently serving as the President of Private Association of Boarding Schools of Nepal (PABSON), Bhaktapur district, an umbrella organization established in order to guide, promote, give permanency and protect the rights of private schools to professionally develop the education system and institutions in the nation. He is also a member of Quality Kathmandu Schools (QKS), and has previously served as the General Secretary of Amnesty International (AI) from 2004 to 2009.

Mr. Adhikari has attended several the national and the international workshops and conventions, and travelled extensively within the country and abroad that includes countries like United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Holland, Portugal, Portugal, France, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka and India. Mr. Adhikari is committed to promoting the quality of education in terms of both equity and inclusive education.

Mr. Dilip Rana


Mr. Dilip Rana currently serves as the Principal of BHAKTAPUR NIST School. Prior to joining the NIST school, Mr. Rana worked as Principal in Sanskriti International School from January 2018 to June 2020 and Rajashree Gurukul from February 2013 to December 2017. He possesses more than two decades of experience in teaching, academic administration and management of academic institutions / schools. As the Academic Head of the two progressive schools, Mr. Rana was deeply involved in providing strategic direction, developing the systems and in executing the strategies, policies and procedures of the institution.

Mr. Rana was also a visiting faculty of Master’s degree in Education Program at Kathmandu University, and Master’s degree in Sociology at Campion College under Tribhuwan University. He had the privilege to assist his Professors at Kathmandu University in the MPhil program for subjects like Research Methodology, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. He began his career as Asst. Co- ordinator for Cambridge International A Level programme at GEMS Institute of Higher Education in 2008. He also taught to the students of undergraduate level i.e. BSMD (Bachelor of Science leading to Doctor of Medicine) in the same institution under Angeles University Foundation, the Philippines and later in Campion College.

Mr. Rana earned his M. Phil. in Educational Leadership from Kathmandu University and Postgraduate and Undergraduate degrees in Sociology from Campion College (TU). He had his schooling completed from Dr. Grahams Homes, Kalimpong, India and also had a Diploma course from Social Science Baha. Currently, he is pursuing his M. Ed. from University of Applied Research and Development (New Zealand). One of the core objectives of the programme is integrating technology in education which is essential for the 21 st century. He was also the founder member of Quality Kathmandu Schools (QKS), and was leading programmes for the students’ development in Kathmandu. Mr. Rana brings with him the knowledge and expertise in pedagogic principles, leadership and management of schools.
